Audi S8 shows the elegance and show off its great strength
The Audi S8 2020 is both a luxury car belonging to the highest class and the sportiest member in the limousine segment. Audi having built S8-badged derivatives of every generation of A8 sedan thus far. The ultimate variant of the previous generation, the S8 Plus, featured a 605-hp twin-turbo V-8 and could hit a claimed 190 mph. This time around, however, the S8 is not just the sportiest version of the A8, but also the overall range topper, even supplanting the previous W-12 model.
Installed a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine, complemented by a 48-volt hybrid system and lithium-ion battery, the S8 became powerful. The system’s belt-driven motor-generator does not directly contribute to the vehicle’s thrust. However the boosted V-8 engine cranks out ample grunt on its own: 563 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 590 lb-ft of torque between 2000 and 4500 revs. Audi says the car can reach 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
On highways, the S8 offers an endless rush of power. It is a veritable mental exercise in restraint to keep it within the legal speed range. The Audi S8 also is surprisingly economical, thanks to its mild hybridization, cylinder deactivation, lightweight construction, and slippery aerodynamics.
Powering the Audi’s suspension is a 48-volt system. The suspension consists of air springs, adaptive dampers and active anti-roll bars. It is using a grille-mounted camera to look ahead and evaluate the road to anticipate bumps. Between 50 and 80 mph, it can actually lean the car’s body into corners by up to 3 degrees. In Comfort mode, it virtually eliminates body jiggles. In additions, when the doors are opened for easier ingress and egress, the system even can raise the car slightly.
Comfort mode works extremely well for the passengers. The Dynamic setting is much better. Because it provides more harmonious body movements and sufficient, though not overly pronounced, levels of tactility. Although the standard all-wheel-drive system does not usually turn heads correctly, the steering of the S8 is still extremely accurate. A torque-vectoring rear differential also is standard. Compared to standard iron vanes, handling can be further optimized with the optional 20-pound lighter carbon-ceramic brake package. The S8’s driver-assistance systems are rather unobtrusive.
About the outside and the inside
Outside, the S8 looks sharper than the regular A8. The low side skirts add to its performance stance. Some of the highlights of the S8 are audi’s distinctive grille and rear spoiler. Additionally, there are optional 21-inch wheels and large 20-inch wheels as standard.
Inside, the details are exquisitely designed and luxurious. Equipping the S8 is a border seat with embossed S8 logo and diamond pattern stitching. The highlight is that carbon fiber can be replaced with piano black trim. Especially the future four-spoke steering wheel fits into the bar graphs of the 1980s in the S8’s signature digital instrument cluster.
2020 Audi S8 impressive, sporty and extremely luxurious. You can drive it yourself and experience it for your travels
