Mercedes’ new car is powerful and achieves an engine equipped with an AMG engine and four-wheel drive vector torque.
It’s the latest model to receive Affalterbach’s M139 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, the most powerful four-cylinder in series production, and joins the A45 and CLA 45 in AMG’s compact performance line-up.
The GLA 45 produces 382bhp in standard form. The top-rung S model brings an additional 33bhp – making it the most powerful compact crossover available. Mercedes says that this car will sprint from 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds, with the S shaved 0.1 seconds in that time. The S also goes without the standard car’s speed limiter, taking top speed up from 155mph to 168mph.
Some additions to the bodywork include power in the bonnet, flared wheel arches and striking air intakes.
The gearbox for the GLA 45 is a variable four-wheel system that uses torque vector technology. It sends a different amount of power to each rear wheel depending on the driving situation. electric-controlled multi-disc clutches with two wheels, allowing each to be disengaged from its drive shaft individually. In addition, the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox provides acceleration at all speeds.
The AMG bespoke suspension offers enhanced rolling improvements over the previous model. IT allows easy vehicle control at the limits. Reducing torque when accelerating and driving more responsibly are improvements to this vehicle
A range of driving modes allow the car to be set up for its intended use. The GLA 45’s ‘Race-Start’ function is said to provide “a highly emotional experience”, by maximising acceleration from stationary and pausing ignition between gears for a more noticeable shift. By contrast, Eco Mode places an emphasis on efficiency, with stop-start and coasting functionalities helping to save fuel.
Inside is the typical interior of Mercedes AMG. The car is equipped with modern equipment such as sports bucket seats, bespoke steering wheel with a choice of driving mode and custom shortcut keys and a sports view specifically for the digital instrument cluster.
Mercedes revealed that the GLA45 S will cost from £ 52,000. This summer it will come to the UK.
