Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio 2019
Alfa Romeo is similar to Italians like Michelangelo stole David, but it is owned by Fiat Chrysler Automenses, which places sincere American brands like Dodge and Jeep under an umbrella.
So it is not a big surprise if you are experiencing the déjà vu when looking at the Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio.
As soon as Jeep took the Dodge Challenger SRT HellcatTHER mega Hemi V8 and tucked it into the tip of its Grand Cherokee to create the matchless Trackhawk, Alfa performed a similarly daring car transplant.
Granted, the fully aren power figures in the same stratified field, but the intention is the same.
Take the 2.9-liter twin-turbo engine from the muscular and fast Giulia Quadrifoglio convertible, and drop it into a five-seater Stelvio to create a version of Quadrifoglio capable of accelerating from 0 – 100km / h Four seconds.
Does Alfa Loi have a quick family recipe that allows passionate drivers to have their actual pie and eat it with a dynamic performance order? We were behind the wheel to find out.
Is there anything interesting about its design? 9/10
Alessandro Maccolini has been a constant in the Alfa Romeo Style Center for 25 years. As the head of exterior design, the Brand Guide looks increasingly sophisticated, through the latest Giulia and Stelvio, with Tonale’s sleek compact SUV concept and the upcoming GTV coupe. launch push the boat even further.
Featured with our ‘Challeizione Red’ Stelvio Quadrifoglio red, which has a strong resemblance to their star Giulia (they are reinforced by the ‘Giorgio’ platform), its intense expression is built around The ‘tri bolo’ signature-shaped grille can be lowered all the way down to the courtesy of an offset front license plate.
The long, angular headlights (adaptive bi-xenon) surround each front corner, while the wide two-level splitter with the black mesh grille in the upper adds an aero accent. The dual bonnet vents add yet another hint of performance purpose.
An exquisite combination of gentle curves and stiffer character lines down the fuselage fuses with powerful pumped guards filled with forged 20-inch five-ring alloy rims.
With a strong turret on the back, Stelvio has the appearance of an ‘coupe SUV, similar to the BMW X4 and Merc GLC Coupe. And the glossy black side window surrounds and roof rails are a pointless highlight, while Alfa distributors will love the iconic Quadrifoglio (four-leaf clover) badges at the front of the front guards.
LED tail lights reflect the general shape of the headlights, with well-defined horizontal sections stacked to create a relatively vertical rear end. Quad exhaust and five-channel (function) diffuser enhance the macho character.
The interior is brilliant to look like it is to occupy. A blend of leather, Alcantara, brushed alloy and carbon fiber embellish a sophisticated and cool design that combines Alfas’ past echoes and the latest technology the brand offers.
Our car is particularly carbon-rich, thanks to the optional Sparco carbon fiber front seats ($ 7150) and sports leather-wrapped steering wheel, Alcantara and carbon ($ 4550).
A dual cowl instrument cluster, complete with accented eyebrows in the dashboard above each gauge is an Alfa mark, as well as the eyeball vents at either end of the dash.
A 8.8-inch color multimedia display is seamlessly integrated at the top of the center stack and contrasting red stitching on the seats, doors and dash, as well as limited use of top, key materials. It highlights interior quality and attention to detail design.
Eight colors are offered, including unique free shades of (solid) ‘Alfa Red ,. There are five optional metallic colors – ‘Vulcano Black’, ‘Silverstone Gray’, ‘Vesuvio Gray’, ‘Montecarlo Blue’ and ‘Misano Blue’ (+ $ 1690), with two layers of finishing ‘Tri-Coat’ (mechanical Base and main different color coat with clearer), ‘Challeizione Red’ and ‘Trofeo White’ ($ 4550).
How realistic is the inner space? 8/10
Despite the fire and pebbles lurking under its bonnet, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio must still act as a premium five-seater SUV. And with a length of 4.7m, a width of 1.95m and a height of just under 1.7m, its exterior dimensions are almost exactly the same as Alfa’s important high-end midsize competitors such as Audi, Q5, and BMW. X3, Jaguar F-Pace, Lexus RX and Merc GLC.
Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s price, specifications, and performance, can be somewhat competitive, but we’ll get there in the value segment (continued).
There was no problem with the head and shoulders room for the driver and front-seat passengers, although clearing the pronounced side latches on the front seat cushions takes some effort on the way in and out. Wait for early wear on exterior decoration.
There is also a medium-sized glove box, plus a lighted bin, with lights between the front seats, containing a pair of USB ports and an ‘auxiliary’ jack. The third USB socket and the 12 volt socket are plugged into the lower part of the dash.
Sitting behind the Driver’s driver seat for my 183cm frame, I have plenty of rear legroom, although the best described headroom is sufficient.
The three adults of stature in the back will need to be good friends and the short straw holder in the center will not only sit in a stiffer and smaller seat, but also fight for legroom thanks to a middle tunnel. The heart is wide and fairly high.
On the plus side, the doors open for relatively easy access, there are two cup / bottle compartments in the central armrest that fold down, and small pails in the door with a cut-in to keep the bottle modest.
There’s also an adjustable vent on the back of the front center console, with a pair of USB charging sockets and a small storage hole underneath. But forget the map pocket on the back of the front seat, in our car, it’s a professional carbon-fiber case as far as the naked eye can see.
With the 40/20/40 upright rear seats, Alfa requires a 525-liter boot space, fairness for the class, and more than enough to swallow our three-piece rigid suitcase (35, 68 and 105 liters) or CarsGuide trolley, with vacancies.
A recessed rails system on either side of the floor allows for infinite adjustment of a set of four row anchoring points that flip up, and an elastic storage network is included. Pretty.
The boot door can be opened and closed remotely, which is always a welcome feature. The release handle near the back door opens into the backseat with a simple snap of your fingers, has a convenient shopping bag on the sides of your boots, plus a 12-volt outlet and useful lights. A small storage tray behind the Driver’s side wheel tank is a thoughtful inclusion, with the same position on the opposite side filled with subwoofers.
Don Xiet is always looking for a spare of any description, the repair / inflatable kits are your only option (even though you have a pair of civilized gloves), and be aware that Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a no-pull zone.
