Mazda MX-5 2015 review
Finally, we had the opportunity to spend a week in the Mazda MX-5. We were a bit slow in raising our hand to borrow one to drive on our home territory after the media successfully launched earlier in the year. When we speak slowly, we are talking about a few seconds of delay. Tiny Mazda Roadster has proven to be as popular with the car press as it is with the owner.
Nearly 200 MX-5 with a ‘large’ 2.0-liter engine was sold before the first ship even arrived at the harbor. This may explain why we were given 1.5 liters to test. Well, well, it gives us an excuse to enter 2.0L later.
As well as the standard MX-5, simply called Roadster, has a high-end, Roadster GT. The GT has 16-inch wheels, black door mirror covers, seven-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, internet radio, automatic wipers and wipers, climate control on air conditioning, and keyless start. .
Our test machine is a 1.5 liter Roadster GT.
Shaped for the 21st century, the all-new Mazda MX-5 is no longer an evolution of the first three generations, it’s a clean design.
Not surprisingly, the MX-5 utilizing the Kodo design has been very successful in other models within the current Mazda range. Just look at the TV commercial to see the brilliant little roadster leading a group of Mazda’s V-shaped cars and SUVs.
For the first time, the Mazda MX-5 is offered with two engines. A 1.5-liter, four-cylinder unit with modest capacity of 96kW, and torque of 150Nm, and 2.0 liters (118kW / 200Nm). The two engines are clearly closely related and have Mazda’s SkyActiv technology that allows them to run very high compression ratios for great efficiency.
Although the auto is a small sporty unit, it has the advantage of a driving experience
Mazda offers MX-5 in five-speed automatic or six-speed automatic. In the early days, Mazda Australia was looking for buyers to buy about 60% manual transmission. A wise decision in our way of thinking, even though the car is a small sports unit, it has the advantage of a driving experience.
Unless you’re convicted of spending most of your commuting life in heavy traffic, why not enjoy the excellent gearshift and improved control that the ‘real’ gearbox gives you?
Starting with an empty computer screen meant the designers were able to cut a significant amount of weight compared to the 1110kg NC Series MX-5, bringing the new car to 1009kg.
Part of the weight reduction means the MX-5 now has a soft-back, not a folding hardtop.
Mazda’s MZD Connect multimedia system has a 7.0-inch touchscreen and can be operated by the Control Control Control in the center, available as an option on the 1.5-liter Roadster. It is standard on the 1.5-liter Roadster GT, as well as on both 2.0-liter models.
Not yet tested, Mazda Australia predicts a four star rating from ANCAP.
Operation of soft roof is simple; You undo a trap in the middle of the windshield rails, fold the roof and clamp it down to the open position. You can do it in less than five seconds to catch the best conditions, or seal yourself up if the weather suddenly becomes wet.
This machine is guaranteed to simply bring smiles to the faces of their car lovers
The engine has been moved a bit back and the small roadster can be classified as a mid engine because its complete engine is within the wheelbase. It has also been lowered to bring the focus even further down.
Naturally, Mazda Australia is aiming to find buyers among young couples and singles, but it’s no secret that they’re also chasing empty nesters who can afford. to own a daily driver as well as a toy car in the form of MX-5. In an empty classroom, I found it difficult to sit on a chair because my old knee did not want to lean back and sit down from lower seats than previous NA to NC cars.
Once settled, the seats are great, with great support for cornering, as well as for long trips (ish). But people of any age over 6 feet may find their legroom restricted.
The cornering angle is simply delicious, the small roadster turns in precisely, almost feeling as if you just have to think it into the corner and it reads your mind. After that, it resolutely clung to the black stuff, but was happier to change the direction in the middle of the corner without hesitation.
This machine is simply guaranteed to bring smiles to the faces of their car lovers and get the best from them.
The MX-5’s ride is impressively comfortable for a vehicle with this excellent balance and grip, and is a real credit to suspension and tire engineers.
