The AMG fits a smaller but still powerful V8 engine – and the tiller is too fat to grip.
Forget Porsches and Lamborghinis, if you crave a supercar in the real world then you need a three-pointed star.
The Mercedes-AMG C63 S is surprisingly fast, surprisingly comfortable, and with a base price of $ 155,489, great value. It can also carry up to four people and luggage and, if you’ve ever been to the Top End Stuart Highway, where the open road limit has been removed again, you can even go up to 280km / h.
In fact, it was just a cramped steering wheel that I couldn’t immediately give it to The Tick before I even started the engine of the new C-Class family’s new hero.
What is that steering wheel? Yes, the wheel was too fat for me and it ruined my interest in the car on my favorite drive.
I like to keep a light touch on the rim but I can’t get comfortable fingers around the chunky wheel. This meant I was forced to grip too tightly and cling instead of stroking gently like I was doing with the accelerator – which could release 375kW of twin-turbocharged V8 power.
This is not the only car with too fat wheels (think BMW M3), but it’s time to talk about it – AMG has gone beyond good deals for people with big hands and fat wallets. I bought one, I will order it with wheels from the C200 facility.
The basics are high quality and topical
But back to the rest of the pack, there’s beat power and, for me, more comfortable than the M3 / M4 and Audi RS heroes.
63 was built from the C-Class that received our 2014 Car of the Year award, so I know the basics are high quality and in place.
That includes the modern cabin design, safety equipment and quality of Benz in materials and final finishing. I like the larger fuel tank but the C-Class package excludes that.
63 will still require an acceptable range until you choose to exploit the engine performance. Then it easily spits 15.0L / 100km or more.
The 63-year-old recently abandoned the previous 6.2-liter V8 in favor of 4.0, which means you can have a better economy with a gentle leg while thirst in thirst is greater when the mood is performance. high appearance.
In the AMG upgrade, the turbines are tucked inside the vee for better packaging and throttle response. It adds a seven-speed sports car, a really great performance setting for the engine and gearbox and, among other fruits, 19-inch alloy wheels with big brakes.
This test car, one of the last to have no real-world owner, also has the Edition 1 package used to launch the model in Australia. It brings cosmetic tweaks including diamond stitching on the front bucket seats, dark alloys and exhaust tips, spoilers and more. Once again, I spent my own money, I ticked the $ 8000 box for the Version package.
There is great comfort in the basic C-Class and the 63 is even better
Solved, I take the time to program the “personal” settings. The basic options run from Sport and Sport + to Race (including the Launch control) but I choose Sport + on everything except the suspension, which I left in a completely soft mode to ensure compliance and grip.
It was originally in full Sport + mode and the ride was very noisy, too stiff and noisy. Backing up it fits the local road much better.
There is great comfort in the basic C-Class and the 63 is even better, thanks to the sturdy seats, and there’s space in the back for adults. The six-year-old boy is extremely happy with his views and amusing elements AMG.
The exhaust has a grunt when idle but can also be turned to a threat. Large and simple dialing, the top display ensures you always pay attention to your speed and the Burmester sound is great.
There is no reason to think that safety is less than five stars, although ANCAP will not damage the C63, and Benz has proven long-lasting quality.
What about potential rivals, even including the 911 or Nissan GT-R? 63 heads them because of the comprehensive power of the Benz technique and the overall practicality of the car. It’s easy to park, the boot space is good, but it can still get up and go.
For me, the chassis and suspension work better in Australia than BMW M cars and the way maximum torque of 700Nm flows into the rear wheels helps to dramatically reduce performance.
The 19-inch wheels are similar to those on the new Ford Mustang but I’m surprised that it doesn’t adhere to the same as the American carriage. I was also surprised that, despite the claimed economy of 8.6L / 100km, I still received seven-seventh on the highway and most of my activities were within 12 plus.
It’s a car that shows that driving can still be fun
But I’m running, not walking, in a car I’d love to go. 63 always eager and ready, from idle to the red line.
