Rating Range Rover Velar 2019
Land Rover must have a huge cool warehouse just sitting in a tank at Solihull HQ, ready for the Range Rover design team to pump into its new concepts. Because since the groundbreaking Evoque nearly a decade ago, every occurrence of Range Rover has taken the brand’s great element even further to zero.
The unimaginably sleek SUV you see before your eyes is the new Velar, the fourth member of the current Range Rover, filling the gap between the compact Evoque and the larger Range Rover Sport.
It has a five-seater car, a true Range Rover, that manages to combine top-class luxury with unruly functionality and genuine off-road capability. And we were invited to control many models at the Australian launch, across the city and suburbs, on the highway, as well as a deep dive.
Is there anything interesting about its design?
Velar slim LED head and taillights, set the tone for the latest expression of the Range Rover’s unique design language.
The smallest wheels you’ll find on Velar are 18 inches quite large and neat touches like a specially deployed door handle that helps the car record surprisingly low drag coefficient (Cd 0.32 ).
A sloping and rounded nose combined with a high waistline, and a shallow glass area respectively, to give Velar a strong but dynamic appearance.
The curves are subtle and carefully controlled on the bonnet and around the wheels to soften the shape of the car, with the oblique tail bearing a broad resemblance to its current siblings and children. Previous grandchildren (a connection enhanced by the featured Range Rover scenario applies front and rear).
Range Rover calls its drive to reduce complexity Design Design deceleration and focus on large, clean surfaces inside the car has created a stunning interior.
A major contributor to the minimalization of this boundary is the ‘Touch Pro Duo system, a combination of a 10-inch dual-touch touchscreen that works to provide everything you need a pin and switch to achieve more common layout.
In addition to the 12.3-inch configurable digital tool screen (standard from the SE level and above) and you can look at a beautiful, functional and beautiful control panel and panel settings .
A wide range of rich decorative materials and glossy inlay elements are available, while paying attention to design details and its performance quality, material and ergonomic efficiency, extremely impressive. .
Get in the car and you’ll never want to go out.
How realistic is the space inside?
It is hard to think of the practical concept when the Velar interior is very luxurious, but practical and suitable for it.
With a length of just over 4.8 meters, Velar only offers 47mm overall length for Sport and only 41mm in wheelbase, so no surprise, moreover, spacious cabin space. But it has the flexibility of layout that makes this five-seat car very user-friendly.
For example, the folding lid for storage box (4.0 liters) between the front seats is split vertically and it can slide, allowing the driver and passenger to adjust each half.
There are three cupholders in the control panel (one under the fitting cover) and the glove box (7.5 liters) is cooled. Standard specs include two USB ports and three 12-volt sockets in the front, with an odd tray hidden beneath the lower touch screen in the center console and door bins designed to accommodate 750ml bottle.
In the back, sitting behind the Driver’s seat in my 183cm position, I enjoyed the spacious legroom and plenty of space. Although the level of control varies depending on the model, there are individual vents, with additional USB inputs and 12 volt power supply.
Spacious cargo space, with nearly 673 liters available with rear 40/20/40 rear seats upright and over 1731 liters (only 30 liters of shy Sport) opens when folded. A wide range of fastening points, pocket hooks, sliding lids, good lighting and 12 volt capacity make it an extremely handy space. In addition, a gesture-controlled tailgate is standard.
The spare wheel situation is very interesting, in which the space-saving steel set (limit of 80km / h) is standard for all models, but, you can have a space-saving alloy set. for an additional $ 530, or full-size alloy parts for $ 1020.
This raises the question, who is able to feel the need for an alloy space saver (which won allows you to go faster than a steel), but too tight to earn an additional $ 490 for Real deals?
To give that person the benefit of the doubt, a full-size alloy spare part increases the floor height by 10cm, reducing the base load volume to 558 liters. So maybe it’s BIG all about functionality, not form.
Does it represent good value for price? What features does it come with?
With eight model levels, six engines (three petrol, three diesel engines) and a range of seemingly unlimited options, the entry cost for Velar ranges from $ 70,662, up to $ 168,250. For limited edition Launch Edition, as the name implies, will be available for Velar’s first year of production.
It all adds up to no less than 50 variations in that $ 100,000 price range and Land Rover is pushing customization as a key element in the Velar purchasing process.
It is a six-step process, with customers to choose the following; model (Velar or Velar R-Dynamic), engine (any engine available at any level), specification (base, S, SE, or HSE), exterior (roof type, paint colors, wheels), interior (seat type, material and finish) and options (there are many of them).
Prices starting at $ 70,662 buy you a standard Vel Velar, with a P250 petrol engine, while the D180 diesel is equivalent to about $ 71,550. R-Dynamic bodywork (branded tires, leather-wrapped steering wheel with chrome trim, unique front and rear front bumper, front fog lamps, along with a range of special materials and finishes) an additional $ 6000 .
