Review Bentley Bentayga
This is the car that Bentley Motors hopes will not only change the look and perception of the 96-year-old brand, but also allow it to double production from 10,000 this year to 20,000 by 2025.
We were the first to drive it among the rocky hills and rivers in Spain as well as glide through the 200m high sand dunes in Dubai.
In addition to being the fastest and most powerful SUV ever, the Bentley Bentayga has been the company’s most important model since the introduction of the Continental GT in 2003.
Emphasizing its importance, Bentley Motors President and CEO Wolfgang Durheimer sent us to see a prototype of the first production cars that would initially cost from $ 600,000 in Australia.
It weighs 2420kg. The aluminum construction has helped Bentley save reputable weight 200kg more than steel, allowing the design team to have more freedom in equipping the amenities inside.
These include nine veneer wood options, 15 quilted quilted leather upholstery options, deep and hand-crank floor mats, notch aluminum vents with chrome-plated sliders, solid brass, bodies.
The star of the interior is Mulliner’s optional Breitling Tourbillon, for just 150,000 euros
However, the star of the interior is Mulliner’s optional Breitling Tourbillon, which is only 150,000 euros. Yes, it’s a $ 225,000 watch, making it almost as expensive as the base version of the car itself; it is the work of a craftsman who has an annual output of just four.
Bentley wants to reinforce the fact that this is a unique product in the Volkswagen Group SUV, with its own chassis and air suspension developed exclusively for the Bentayga. It remains a derivative of VW’s modular MLB platform, which debuted under the Audi Q7 and underpinned the VW Touareg as well as future Q5, Q3 and Tiguan variants.
For the launch, there’s a formidable, twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 (two narrow-angle V6 engines fused on one crank), followed by V8, diesel and V6 hybrid engine options. There are full orders for the 447kW W12 until 2017, so there’s no need to rush to bring others online.
The new 12-cylinder engine is 90% lighter and 30kg lighter than its predecessor. Its modified internal lubricant prevents spikes and collects oil from the turbo when it’s at extreme corners. It also turns off the six cylinders to save fuel on ramps.
Bentley claims a 0-100kmh time of 4.0 seconds, up to 301km / h.
However, let’s take a quick shortcut, and the actual story is obvious. Maximum torque of 900Nm from just 1350 rpm, and a range of driving modes – now becoming standard for off-road vehicles – will rock things soft or tough.
The Bentayga’s eight powertrains match what is known as “Charisma”, with the ability to cross snow, wet grass, sand, mud, gravel, comfort and sport. The “Bentley” mode is a compromise to suit most conditions.
Each mode combines and matches settings for the center differential, powertrain, and anti-roll setup powered by 48 volts for the pneumatic suspension.
Other adjustments were made to vehicle height, traction control, throttle sensitivity and shift points on the eight-speed automatic.
The approach and starting angle without the closest competitor is the Range Rover
Its ability to handle loose and slippery gradients is impressive for its size. It seemed comfortable crawling through obstacles with a sensitive throttle, at one point with a wheel in the air, like earlier this year when we joined the development team at the sand dunes in the Middle East.
Back then, when the thermometer inched 60 degrees, it kept bouncing out of its 6500 rpm limit as it plunged through dunes the size of a skyscraper in midair.
The Bentayga team has worked hard to make sure the trip is as smooth as possible. This is where the powerful electric motors in the anti-roll gear act up front, twisting the rear anti-roll bar in the opposite direction with force to keep the anti-roll bar as flat as possible.
Given the size of the car and the angles we passed, it did a remarkable job of getting over obstacles without anything flying around the cabin or we didn’t need to. Reached for the handle.
One thing, however, is equally evident in the sand of the emirates and on the Spanish hills – the approach and departure angles are not comparable to its closest competitor, the Range Rover. .
Two intercooler radiators are mounted in the front bumper, so you should exercise caution when approaching steep hills to avoid digging.
For those planning to work, the Bentayga has a wading depth of 500mm and towing capacity of 3500kg.
