Review Ford EcoSport
One of the first to enter the booming small SUV segment has never caught the attention it should probably have. I talk about Ford EcoSport.
The smallest SUV from the blue oval brand was built in India, and maybe that’s part of the reason it wasn’t well received. I went into the international launch of EcoSport back in mid-2013, and some of the fit and finish left a lot to look forward to.
That didn’t change when the car launched in Australia, and while the price it offered was very attractive, there were other factors that were probably werewolves like a spare wheel mounted on the tail.
That spare wheel has remained a feature up to the present time (a subsequent model change for MY18.5 version will see deleting it in a way that is beneficial for the repair kit, and therefore not there are spare parts) – but there have been some other styling changes for the 2018 Ford EcoSport range, and perhaps even more importantly, the new powertrain and major interior modifications.
It is definitely an improvement, but how much has it improved? Read on to find out
Is there anything interesting about its design? 7/10
According to Ford, the new appearance fits into Ford’s modern SUV showroom, and its design will certainly be more suitable to park alongside the next-sized Escape. It has new bonnet, new headlights (halogen on entry levels and onboard HID HID), new grille shape with different color rims based on variants (entry – gray, mid-spec – black glossy and top-spec – chrome) a revised front bumper and revised rear styling, too. There’s a tiny rear spoiler, but no body kits or side steps.
It is still one of the services with more sturdier styling in the segment, with a more muscular appearance than, the Honda HR-V or Mazda CX-3. Spare wheel has a lot to do with that. While the spare wheel will be removed from the tailgate in the coming months, a wheel fitted to this version has been redesigned. And if you’re worried about pressing that lid when reversing, the reversing camera will alleviate your concerns and the rear parking sensor is tuned in mind.
Just be aware that if you park your car on the road and someone is parked behind you, you may struggle to open the boot – along with turning in the wrong direction (the opening should be closest to the curb, but it’s above traffic!), the back door is pretty big.
However, the interior is probably the most important change, both in terms of aesthetics and usability. Its internal dimensions are impressive, as you will see in the images inside.
How realistic is the inner space? 7/10
There’s no denying that the Ford EcoSport is one of the most practical small SUVs you can buy. After all, it can fit into a washing machine on startup – it’s one of the big selling points for Indian buyers, so – storage space, size, luggage capacity and even size important.
Boot space is even more practical now, with the changing shelf system offering options for deeper storage, a small hidden area in the mid-range position and a flat storage area (but steep?) With the rear seats folded – you do that by lifting the rear seat legs, then lowering the backrest. In that configuration, there is 1178 liters of cargo capacity (SAE – a more spacious formula for measuring space) for the roof, while seating up to a standing figure of 743L (SAE). If that’s not enough, you get roof rails on the top two models, so you can add a roof rack if you need to.
The storage has been improved for occupants, with a new center console tank between the front seats, while those in the back seats get a folded down center armrest in mid and head models. In those versions, there are two cupholders on the back as well as two in the front, while all four doors have bottle holders. The front passenger seats lack height adjustment and people sitting on high can feel like they are looming in that position.
Good space for classrooms, especially rear leg room and headroom. If you try and fit three in the back, it will be very tight, but for younger buyers with children, there are two dual ISOFIX child seat anchors and the top three hooks.
The center console area has been reworked with a new storage area in front of the device selector almost deep enough for the smartphone to sit, but it will surely fall over. There are two USB ports in all EcoSports and they are illuminated, this is a reward, but controlling the air conditioner is a cheap feeling.
Above the area is a new media screen – the 6.5-inch version in the Ambiente base model and the 8.0-inch infotainment unit in Trend and Titanium. It’s capable of capacitive touch and the Sync 3 multimedia interface is simple and no matter which model you use, Apple Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone mirroring technology.
Does it represent good value for the price? What features does it come with? 9/10
Ford EcoSport has one of the most compact cars in the segment, with three variants priced too far apart. In fact, from the bottom of the range to the top, there’s only a gap of $ 6200.
However, this is a simple product line, which means there is not much choice for buyers. All three versions are powered by gasoline, automatic and front-wheel drive – which is exactly what most customers in the small SUV segment demand. But to compare models in the range, keep reading to compare our models.
How much does Ford EcoSport cost? At the bottom of the price list is the entry level Ambiente of $ 22,790 plus on-road costs (rrp), good compared to most of its rivals. It kicked off proceedings with a 6.5-inch touchscreen media system running Ford’s ‘Sync 3’ media dashboard, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity with phone and audio streaming. bars, two USB ports, CD DAB radio, voice control, central locking, cruise control, an audio system with six speakers (no subwoofer, no DVD player) and seat decoration fabric cover.
The mid-range model in the EcoSport product line is Trend, which has an attractive price at $ 24,490.
It rides on ugly 16-inch steel wheels with plastic casing (tear them apart and roll on steel – own it!) And has the silver exterior trim that describes it as a base vehicle. All members of the EcoSport range now include a 4.2-inch digital driver information screen between the dials, including digital speedometer and Ambiente equipped with reversing camera and parking sensor. Rear as standard.
The mid-range model in the EcoSport product line is Trend, in the middle of the price range at $ 24,490.
Trend adds black rails, black exterior trim, 16-inch alloy wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel and media game navigation along with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, mounting Available free navigation / GPS map updates for navigation for life and seven-speaker audio system.
