Review Kia Cerato 2017
Shakespeare was at least half right when he thought the clothes were men’s, because they also went a long way to creating the Kia Cerato.
You can be very fastidious with the old Bill for not checking the name of Kia’s small car; The booming Korean brand is still somehow when he calls it a night back in 1616. But there’s no doubt that a fair part of Cerato’s success is due to its looks.
The price cut punches South Korea miles on its weight in fashion stock, a fine cut and impressive figures on the road – and one that defies its relatively small price. That’s at least part of the reason why Kia’s best-selling model, challenges the Australian SUV-mania to be in control to transfer a whopping 15,977 units until November of this year (closest rival. Its in the Kia stable, Sportage, has moved 11,606 cars over the same period).
But is it just a fancy outfit that attracts buyers to Cerato? Or have substance to match the style?
Is there anything interesting about its design? 8/10
Much has been made of Kia’s design renaissance, and we’ve won with it. Instead let us point out the bleeding clearly; Cerato looks good. In fact, very good, with a European-style body design, grille front and sweeping headlamps.
And the good news is that you won’t have to pay a style penalty (or at least, not a big penalty) in choosing the cheapest Cerato, even if the S comes with alloy steel wheels, skirting. and mirrors match the colors and bumpers. You can forget a large and dim body kit, rear or rear spoiler, even on Sport and Sport + models – the indispensable charm is the order of the day here.
There are LED taillights, and the addition of daytime running lights makes the front end just a bit more premium. All in all, it a pack that looks sharp.
If you want a white, non-metallic white car, there’s no penalty there. But choose any other color – ‘Snow White Pearl’, ‘Aurora Black’, ‘Silky Silver’, ‘Metal Stream’ (think gray), ‘Temptation Red’, ‘Planet Blue’ or ‘Gravity Blue’ (which much darker) – will add $ 520 to the requested price.
As you can see in our interior photos, the cabin is a clean and simple space, with fabric or leather upholstery (depending on your budget) and soft materials at most. Touch points if you choose a more expensive model.
The biggest change inside as you walk through the layers is the size of the screen: a mailbox that looks like a larger, more modern touch screen as you climb the ranks, with Apple The following CarPlay and Android Auto are equipped. It changes most clearly in the Cerato model comparison.
How realistic is the inner space? 7/10
With a length of 4350mm and a height of 1450mm (the convertible version is 4560mm long and 1435mm high), the relatively small size of the Cerato provides plenty of space for the front driver, and the rear seats serve a room for passengers. mature.
In the front, there are two cups, along with the place in the bottle door. The small central storage bin houses two power points and USB power, and has a surprisingly deep second storage bin that separates the front seats. In addition, there is a sunglasses holder that integrates into the roof, as well as a mirror in each sun visor.
Climb into the back, and there’s plenty of room on offer, with good space between my own knee and 5ft 8ft driving position, and enough room to sit comfortably, too. What you find, though, depends on your budget. Cheaper cars have two cupholders and store bottles at the entrance, but not by creating creature comforts at the back. But the most expensive version has additional vents.
Seat up, the hatch models offer 385 liters (VDA) of bootable real boot space, while the sedan raises luggage capacity to 482 liters – but it’s harder to get, due to the tighter start up. And there are two ISOFIX attachment points, one on each rear window seat.
Kia also offers a plethora of official accessories, such as roof racks, special floor mats, bicyclists and roof covers, to help increase the practicality of the Cerato. You can also get a tow bar / ball, which will give the small Cerato unlimited drag of 610kg and 1200kg brakes.
Does it represent good value for the price? What features does it come with? 8/10
How much is the Kia Cerato? Well, it’s a bit easier now than before. Kia has just cut the Cerato range from five to three models for 2018, with each available in hatch or sedan body styles. The price list now starts with S packing value (manual $ 19,990, automatic $ 22,290), before stepping up Sport only automatically (increasing cost to $ 24,790) and Sport + (27,290 dollars).
Finally, Sport + adds carbonfibre effect decoration, cooling glove box and illuminated mirrors in the visor. The biggest change is leather seats (designated), and you also get paddle shifters on the steering wheel and air vents for the rear passengers. Oh, and you get the Kia smart key, unlock the start function with the push of a button. However, cabin technology is the same, with an identical seven-inch screen that controls the multimedia system. You may forget a DVD player – this is a Rolls.
What are the important stats for engine and transmission? 7/10
Kia simplifies engine specifications with just one engine provided, right above the Cerato range. And it’s a powerful 2.0-liter, four-cylinder unit, good for 112kW (150 hp) at 6200 rpm and 192Nm at 4000 rpm. Of course, it runs on gasoline, with no diesel or LPG engine options.
Those are good specs for a small car, and while it’s an old-school-feeling unit, its engine size means it’s very powerful when it comes out of traffic lights, while the lack of turbo ensures constant current with no angry latency
In its cheapest guise, that power is transmitted through a 6-speed manual transmission (although we haven’t tested it yet) or via a six-speed automatic transmission and sent to the front wheels. There is no 4×4 or AWD option, but with a 140mm ground clearance, you certainly won’t expect life-changing off-road performance.
The Kia has no official acceleration quotes or 0-100km / h figures, but it is a thrilling setting that perfectly matches the Cerato.
The fun answer to the question of belt or time series is that Cerato uses a lower maintenance chain. For other maintenance questions, such as oil type, battery and gear maintenance, and at what distance, refer to the instruction manual.
