Review Lexus NX 300H
In general, Lexus luxury cars never venture beyond a golf club, private school, or underground parking in an office tower at the end of the city. Recently, I tested out the new Lexus NX 300h hybrid and wondered how the petrol-electric crossover SUV would go beyond its comfort zone.

It was like that, my wife Lynn and I attended a wedding in Townsville and were puzzled how the Lexus hybrid would travel from the Gold Coast to north Queensland and back. We decided to give it a try.
The journey is almost over before it begins, with torrential rains slowing traffic to crawl on Brisbane’s East Gateway Highway. With the car’s all-wheel-drive system providing additional safety, we slowly pressed into Gympie.
Finding a little intriguing on the Bruce Highway, we turned inland on Kilkivan Road on our way to Biloela, where the quality of our toiletries at Target Country was oddly named.
Our plan was to go to Rockhampton via Dululu and Mount Morgan but we couldn’t help but notice a drop in rainfall in the area; the pads were wet.
A few kilometers out of town, we were turned around by the police because the road ahead was impassable. This double means re-join the Bruce Highway at Calliope. We went to Rocky in the late afternoon and went to Emu Park to spend the night on the beach. Rain fell on the stairs and did not stop until morning. This does not bode well for the future of our trip.
As we moved north, the shoals on either side of the road became inland seas. One hundred kilometers on the highway, south of Marlborough, a truck driver turned around and was warning of the problem ahead – water crossing the street. We went to a roadside house, bought some bacon sandwiches and eggs and sat down to wait for the problem to be resolved.
It took five hours of rain to stop and the water gradually subsided.
Time was running out, we rushed to Sarina (stopover), Mackay, Proserpine, Bowen and Ayr. We arrived in Townsville the day before the wedding. As we headed north, the daytime temperatures were more than 30 degrees constant.

After the wedding, we pointed to Lexus west to go south. The first stop was the Charters Tower, the centerpiece of the 19th century gold rush and the site of the world’s first stock exchange; so it has a lot of answers for: think GFC.
We walked among the many remnants of the gold rush and stayed at the Royal Private Hotel on the main street, which sold its last drink in 1948 when its permit was removed. It’s stuffed with old stuff of mixed origin.
Just a few kilometers out of town the next day, the Lexus tire pressure warning light comes on. An investigation found a screw attached to the rear tire nearby, so we headed back to town to seek help.
Oh, what a feeling, we’re on the road again
Fortunately, the local dealer for Lexus’ big brother Toyota is easy to find as it features outstanding new buildings based on historic gold-digging architecture. Anushka booked the car and saw us drinking a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Within an hour, the Lexus was returned to us by the kind Grant, the mechanic who removed the offending screw and plugged the hole. “Easy,” he said. “The hardest part is resetting the tire pressure sensor”.
Oh, what a feeling, we’re on the way again, Flinders Highway to be exact. As teenagers, we would love to stay in touch with our new Mom and Dad over the cell phone.
Hughenden: shut up. There was no cell phone signal, the situation lasted three days and hundreds of kilometers.
Ironically, a spaceship just landed in a comet, 3 km x 5km away, in space and sent back information to Earth about weather and walking conditions.
My carrier is a global telecom giant that is spending millions of dollars on sports advertising and events. The comet lander has traveled 526 million km; we didn’t even leave Queensland.
Even more shocking is the fact that the spacecraft left Earth more than a decade ago and the technology it is using is more than ten years old. The good dwellers of the outback Queensland deserve more.
But anyway, we had lunch in town at the FJ Holden cafe, which turned out to be a shrine to the rapidly shrinking automotive giant Aussie
