Review of Mercedes-Benz CLK63
It should be a good starting point in anyone’s book, because, while it’s not intended to beat open drivers, the safe car must be fast and agile enough to keep things heated. while it is under control.
The CLK63 AMG Black Series is the second F1 derivative – after SLK55 – from the new Performance Studio of Merc’s in-house Affalterbach tuning branch, and marks the division’s 40th anniversary.
That means another desirable peak on the top shelf of the AMG badge. And that brings a whole new level of styling, with staggered padded arches, 19-inch alloys, an aggressive front apron with its vents that give the engine a dynamic boost. engine and radiator, carbon fiber spoiler and diffuser rear cradle quad exhaust tips.
In true Merc tradition, the suite is sophisticated enough to get rid of notifications of people unfamiliar in normal traffic. And from afar, it seemed to have an almost clichéd pervert, believing in the threat below. That’s because it’s not just a prestigious coupe with a list of bolted body kits.
It is a legal racer on the street.
At the end of the car, what Mercedes calls a 6.3-liter V8 engine – actually 6208cc – with a plate in the name of the engineer who built it after an AMG man, an engine policy – matches the seven-speed sequential transmission from the CLK63 AMG Health line standards with the final gear ratio shortened to help accelerate. The V8 engine is from the same vehicle, with an overhauled exhaust and exhaust system to develop 630Nm of torque at 5250 rpm and 373kW at 6800 rpm. That’s just 19kW more than the original, but the Black Series doesn’t just depend on power. A lot of work went into the platform and the chassis tweaked wider.
The display feature is a new adjustable suspension – and not the type you can adjust by pressing a button from the comfort of the driver’s seat. Like a real racing suspension, you set it up manually; Change ride height, compression and rebound, camber front axle and tracking of both axles. When you have all the things you like, you can climb inside to enjoy the mix of sport and elegance of the interior, with fine leather sports seats and a tactile flat bottom wheel with roof Aluminum paddle is easy to fall into your hand, you will rarely reach the stubborn gear shift.
There is a surprising amount of people – for two. Where there may be backseat, back seat storage. That’s a good thing, since proper storage space is sparse and shallow boots. There are plenty of great glass and views, and the adjustable range on the driver’s seat and steering column makes it easy to find the best location.
And sprinkle on all soft and leather surfaces, with enough carbon and metal accents to remind you of the work at hand. The CLK63 AMG is expected to arrive next month for $ 299,900, but out of 50, only four are still looking for owners when we test the car in mid-January.
Press the start button and the car responds with a quiet growl that settles into grunts in lower revs. But step on the pedal and you provoke a menacing growl as the car rushes forward, the limited slip differential allows some revs from both rear wheels if you turn off the ESP while playing with the controls. As we accidentally did.
There is no turbo support or super breathing to enhance the effort and you do not feel short of them. Merc says the car reaches a speed of 100km / h in 4.3 seconds and a kick to the belt as we accelerate makes us no reason to doubt that.
Nor can we approach – or suspect – the claimed maximum speed limit of 300km / h. Starting up in a 20-second expedition took us from 110km / h to 23 km / h, with no indication that it would rise above it. The shift shifts go smoothly, with the feeling the car is gathering itself before it jumps forward and back up.
The steering is very responsive and responsive – although at first, it feels a little lead at low speeds – and once you start rolling, there is a sense of direct and clear communication between the hand and the road.
When the ESP is turned back on, the rubber claws on the surface and the car goes where you point it.
But what surprised us was the easy way to set up the suspension. With the ability to glide flat and ready in corners, we think we’ll check the floor for fillings. But it handles everything quickly and smooths out average surfaces. This is subtle enough to be a daily drive – a fast drive.
