In April, Volkswagen will unveil the new ID 4 model at the New York car show. The new EV will retain many of the same exterior themes as the ID Crozz concept car, which was first shown in 2017.
Following the launch of the ID 3 hatchback, the electric crossover SUV is an important part of the VW ID brand’s US and European market reach.
The straight SUV will have a more conventional hood and rear design. In addition, it is expected to have regular rear doors, leaving the sliding doors on the Crozz 2017 concept.
The prototype has the same configuration as the Crozz concept. The shoulder seams rise and fall, imposing front-end and high haunches. In September last year, a disguised ID 4 prototype was also on display at the Frankfurt motor show during the launch of ID 3.
Volkswagen will bring ID 4 and ID 5 around the world to strengthen its position. They will be manufactured in Europe, the US and China. This shows that Volkswagen is rapidly deploying EVs globally.
“As early as 2020, we aim to sell 100,000 all-electric Volkswagens [per year],” said VW Group chairman Herbert Diess at the Crozz concept’s 2017 unveiling. “But this is just the beginning. By 2025, annual sales could increase tenfold to one million vehicles.”
ID 4 and ID versions bring modern sports engines. It has the ability to cross all terrain of a terrain vehicle dedicated.
It’s said to offer interior space on a par with the Tiguan Allspace, a long-wheelbase version of VW’s best-selling SUV model.
The ID Crozz concept is 4625mm long, 1891mm wide and 1609mm tall, putting it in between the five-seat Tiguan and seven-seat Tiguan Allspace in terms of dimensions. The wheelbase is 2773mm.
ID Crozz uses two electric motors – one mounted in the front axle and the other on the back – powered by an 83kWh lithium ion battery placed in the floor structure. The front electric motor delivers its 101bhp and 103lb ft to the front wheels. The rear unit delivers 201bhp and 228lb ft to the rear wheels, giving the car a combined output of 302bhp and 332lb ft of torque.
The ID 4 is set to have a range of more than 311 miles. Performance details have not been revealed by VW yet. However, the maximum speed limit for ID 4 can be 112mph.
VW designed a large battery that sits low in the floor structure. In addition, electric motors are also located in the assembly assembly before and after. So the weight of ID 4 from front to back is 48:52. As a dynamic, sporty crossover, the new platform and chassis bring a big difference between handling and comfort.
